Flat tire & ticket
On Saturday evening, at around 7:45 pm, I was driving on South Atherton when after the Easterly Parkway intersection, I drove over what from the sound seemed to be a bag with bottles that was lying in the middle of the street. After a few blocks I realized that one of my tires was leaking, so I pulled and parked on the legal side of the street in order to examine the damage. The air was still just hissing out the back driver’s side tire. It was dark, there were roving groups of drunk students and unsure drivers, so I decided to leave the car until morning, rather than hunch down in the middle of the dark street to change the tire. I called the police from a friend’s house asking that I be allowed to park over night, and I placed a note, saying “Flat Tire” under the windshield wiper. The flat tire was clearly visible from the street. The next morning at 9:30 AM I returned to change the flat tire and found a parking ticket under the windshield wiper on top of the “Flat Tire” note I had left. One new tire and a ticket later the damage was done.
